Budapest Waterworks hosts conference on the future of water at Planet Budapest 2026
Coinciding with the Planet Budapest Sustainability Event, Budapest Waterworks organised a technical programme for water utility, association and municipality representatives from four countries in the region, while the CEO was invited as a speaker to the Future of Water international conference.
Planet Budapest 2026 is a large-scale international sustainability expo and professional summit held in Budapest, focusing on climate action, environmental innovation and sustainable economic development. Besides the conferences for the professionals, the event targets the general public, families, and the youth.
During the first week of the month-long event, on 27 February, an international conference was organised by the Hungarian Water Partnership – among others – where governments, public utilities, private companies, international organisations, financial institutions, and civil society representatives could meet to exchange knowledge and present practical solutions to global environmental changes. The conference, named 'The Future of Water – Innovative Responses to Global Water Challenges,' was opened by the former President of Hungary, Mr. János Áder, who was also a member of the UN’s High Level Panel on Water. The panel discussions of the conference saw speakers from the African Water and Sanitation Association, the European Water Association, IAWD or the UN-Habitat GWOPA, from the World Bank or EIB discussing global water challenges, climate change, funding options for water infrastructure investments, or bottlenecks for development.
