Conference on the human right to water: risk and challenges for the future

On 16 December, the public operator managing the sewage network of Barcelona and the Catalan Association of municipalities for public water management (AMAP) – both members of APE - organised the high-level conference on “Human right to water: risks and challenges for the future” to discuss the latest report of the United Nations.

The event was the occasion to discuss Leo Heller’s, former UN Special Rapporteur on the human rights to safe drinking water and sanitation, report on ‘Human rights & the privatisation of water and sanitation services.'

Aqua Publica Europea President, Bernard Van Nuffel, addressed a video message where he stated that 'in view of the crises and disruptions that affect our societies, whether the pandemic or climate change, sustainable water management by public operators must prioritise a fair distribution of resources and consider the most vulnerable.' He then welcomed Leo Heller's report and congratulated Pedro Arrojo, as the new UN Special Rapporteur on the human rights to safe drinking water and sanitation.
