Gruppo CAP contributes to international work on methane measurement

Gruppo CAP (Milan, Italy) is contributing to the Net Zero Partnership, an international initiative bringing together utilities to advance low-carbon wastewater treatment.

As part of this collaboration, the partnership has published a scientific paper on methane measurement approaches in wastewater treatment plants, drawing on experience from full-scale facilities across different operational contexts.

The study highlights the need to move beyond standard emission factors and towards measurement strategies that better support mitigation and investment decisions. It finds that methane emissions are often underestimated, highly variable over time and frequently linked to a limited number of assets, meaning targeted monitoring and action can deliver significant benefits. The paper also underlines that no single monitoring approach is sufficient, pointing instead to the need for fit-for-purpose strategies adapted to specific assets and risks.
