On 16 March, the Italian public water operators BrianzAcque (Brianza), CAP Group (Milan) and Como Acqua (Como), members of Aqua Publica Europea, together with the Lombardy Region, the Interregional Agency for the Po River (AIPo) and Lombardia per l'Ambiente Foundation, presented the "Seveso Stream' project which aims to conserve Seveso local river ecosystem.
The "Seveso Stream' project will use drones to surveillance the pollution discharges in the Seveso river which flows through the provinces of Como, Monza e Brianza and Milan (Lombardy region, Italy). Thanks to this new system it will be possible to create a geo-referenced database of discharges and thus provide local and regional administrations with a useful consultation tool from which they can then move on with operational choices and decisions.
In the launch of the project, Enrico Boerci, President and CEO BrianzAcque, Alessandro Russo, president and CEO of the CAP Group and Enrico Pezzoli, President and CEO of Como Acqua declared:
«Today more than ever - pointed out Enrico Boerci, President and CEO BrianzAcque - the managers of the integrated water service play a key role to implement solutions capable of intervening decisively to improve the quality of the water heritage. We are proud that an innovative method of investigation, studied and initiated by BrianzAcque with the application of transversal technologies, has become the channel for an institutional collaboration extended to several actors and able to make a difference for the benefit of the river ecosystem, environment and the Lombard community ».
«The Seveso river represents water and environmental heritage that concerns all of us. It crosses administrative perimeters and faces us with the need to sharing skills and resources between managers and entities. Building synergies isour best tool for the protection of our local territory heritage » underlined Alessandro Russo, president and CEO of the CAP Group .
«Water is a common good - affirmed Enrico Pezzoli, President and CEO of Como Acqua - just as its protection is a collective commitment: there are no borders that can therefore evade responsibility, as guardians of the water resource. In this sense, the Seveso river, flowing over three very different territories, offered the opportunity to build a common project in which will be shared skills, know-how and professionalism. This collaboration will, in my opinion, herald great results, first of all reconciling the use of human technology (in this case drones) with the defence of the environment ».
