On 27 June 2018, the SMART.MET project  launched its request for tenders, a chance for innovative companies in Europe to submit their offers for the development of cutting-edge technology for water smart metering.

Funded under the Horizon 2020 programme, with a budget of €3,240,000, the SMART.MET project aims to promote demand-driven research into the development of new innovative smart meter solutions that fully cater to the needs of utilities, regarding accurate data in real time, readability, interoperability and cost-efficiency. Water smart metering opens opportunities to support utilities in tackling many of the challenges they face and to strengthen water management.  Research and development in water smart metering is the opportunity to develop new standard products.

The Pre-Commercial Procurement (PCP) procedure will allow to direct the research to specific needs, the development of a high quality product and the opening of new markets for companies.

Carried out under Italian law between 2018 and 2021, the PCP will include three phases (see the details here):

  1. solution exploration and design
  2. prototyping
  3. field-testing

Companies wishing to submit an offer are now welcome to view the request for tenders (available here) and put forward their proposals.
