WORKSHOP | Working with Nature for Water Resilience: Unlocking Partnerships for Healthy Watersheds
The workshop “Working with Nature for Water Resilience: Unlocking Partnerships for Healthy Watersheds”, jointly organised by the European Investment Bank (EIB) and Aqua Publica Europea (APE), will take place in Brussels at the EIB Office on Thursday 8 October.
How can working with nature help strengthen water resilience across Europe?
Across Europe, water utilities and public authorities are increasingly looking beyond traditional infrastructure to protect water resources and strengthen resilience to drought, floods and pollution. Healthy soil, forests and wetlands can play an important role in this transition, but turning these approaches into action at scale requires more than individual projects.
It requires partnerships, appropriate financing and governance frameworks that bring together the water, agriculture, finance and policy communities.
Background:
The workshop will explore how nature-based approaches and landscape-scale ecosystem restoration can contribute to water resilience and what is needed to move from individual initiatives towards wider implementation across Europe.
The programme will combine practical European case studies with perspectives from a wide range of experts and authorities. The discussion will then turn to the conditions needed to scale these approaches, including financing models, governance, cross-sector collaboration and the recognition of the costs and benefits of nature-based solutions alongside traditional infrastructure.
An interactive session will bring participants together to identify practical actions and recommendations for a roadmap on landscape water resilience, before the workshop concludes with a discussion on priorities for future collaboration between the water, agriculture and finance communities.
Join the Discussion:
The workshop will take place on Thursday 8 October, from 09:15 to 13:00, at the European Investment Bank Group, Rond-Point Schuman 6, Brussels, followed by a networking lunch from 13:00 to 14:00.
