12th Meeting of the OECD's Water Governance Initiative

Along with over fifty delegates, Aqua Publica attended the 12th meeting of the OECD Water Governance Initiative, organised in Berlin on 20-21 June 2019 and hosted in cooperation with the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development

The agenda of the two days saw the launch the report 'Applying the OECD Principles on Water Governance to Floods: A Checklist for Action' which concretely applied the Principles developed within the initiative on the specific case of flood management and identified the key governance challenges.

In addition, the conversation allowed for an understanding of water governance at the international level with a focus on Argentina, Peru and Brazil, as well as a comprehensive overview of the German water sector with exchanges with representatives from institutions, practitioners and researchers.

Participants further discussed how to assess the role and implications of the involvement of women in water governance

Finally, the initiative's two working groups on Indicators and Capacity Development moved forward in their work to develop the tools to support interested parties (countries, regions, basins and cities) in their decision-making and governance processes.
