APE Webinar Series | Financing Opportunities for the Water Sector: #1 Horizon Europe

On 26 February 2021, Aqua Publica Europea organised a webinar on the opportunities for the water sector in the new EU research and innovation programme Horizon Europe, with Dr Panagiotis Balabanis, Head of Water Sector at Directorate-General for Research & Innovation of the European Commission and Mattia Ceracchi, Head of EU Liaison Office of APRE – Italian Agency for the Promotion of European Research.

This month Aqua Publica Europea has launched a new series of webinars on the opportunities for the water sector in different funding programmes of the EU (Horizon Europe, LIFE, Interreg, Invest EU/Next Generation EU...).

On 26 February 2021, the first webinar “Water in the new EU Research and Innovation Programme, Horizon Europe”, gathering over fifty participants from many EU countries, was organised to provide the members of Aqua Publica Europea with an overview of the new Research and Innovation programme Horizon Europe.

The meeting was opened by Dr. Panagiotis Balabanis, Head of Sector Water at the European Commission’s DG Research & Innovation, who presented the new innovation framework programme, highlighting the most relevant entry points for water operators. Then, Mattia Ceracchi, Head of EU Liaison Office of APRE – Italian Agency for the Promotion of European Research outlined the rules applicable and provided concrete guidance for operators interested in applying for Horizon funding. Finally, Maria José Chesa Marro, Head of Environmental Service and External Relations at BCASA – Barcelona Cicle de l’Aigua, Ajuntament de Barcelona (member of Aqua Publica Europea) closed the meeting by sharing successful projects and tips for potential future applicants.
