On 30 March 2021, Aqua Publica Europea organised the second webinar of its series of briefings on the opportunities for the water sector. On this occasion, Andrea Bianchini (DG for Environment, European Commission ), Mathieu Fichter (DG for Regional and Urban Policy, European Commission) and Marco Beros (European Investment Bank) presented the EU instruments to support investments in water.

Andrea Bianchini (Directorate-General Environment, European Commission) started by giving an overview of the water investment needs and introducing the InvestEU programme opportunities for the water sector. The picture was complemented by Mathieu Fichter (Directorate-General Regional and Urban Policy, European Commission), who outlined the place of water in the new Cohesion Policy. Then, Marco Beros (European Investment Bank) presented the European Investment Bank’s instruments to support investment in the water sector. To illustrated the discussion from an operator perspective, Thierry Jehasse, Financial Director at the Belgian operator SWDE – Société Wallonne des Eaux (member of Aqua Publica Europea) shared insight on an EIB-funded investment project and advice to other water operators interested in the EIB financial instrument.
