On 19 November 2018, Aqua Publica Europea took part in a seminar organised by SMAT, the Turin water operator (Italy), focused on the different legislative bills on the reform of water governance currently discussed in the Italian Parliament.
The Rapporteurs in charge of two ongoing initiatives, MP Federica Daga (Movimento5Stelle) and MP Chiara Braga (Partito Democratico) each presented their proposals. The debate focused on the conditions necessary to fully implement the outcome of the national referendum of 2011, through which Italian citizens demanded the establishment of a public management of water. At the same time, discussions highlighted the importance of also ensuring transparency, sustainability and investments in water services.
Aqua Publica presented an overview of public management models in Europe, and outlined the strategies of public operators to address common future challenges of the water sector.
