Aqua Publica Europea's members share about responses to COVID-19 crisis in online roundtable
On 23 March 2020, Aqua Publica member representatives from 50 water operators from: Italy, France, Belgium, Spain, Portugal, Ireland, Hungary, Greece, Montenegro, Austria gathered in an online roundtable to exchange about the COVID-19 emergency and share the measures adopted by public water operators to ensure continuity of services during this unprecendented crisis.
As the COVID-19 outbreak affects all of Europe, representatives of Aqua Publica Europea members, the European Association of Public Water Operators, are engaged to exchange and share approaches and best practices with regard to crisis management.
On 23 March 2020, an online roundtable, gathering over fifty participants from many EU countries, was organised as the first initiative to improve transnational coordination and best responses to the crisis, and support operators' efforts to continue to provide essential water and sanitation services to society in this period.
Public water operators, in particular from the first regions affected, from lockdown areas but also from areas of increasing concerns, had the opportunity to explain how they respond to the COVID-19 crisis. A lively discussion allowed operators to ask key questions and exchange on best practices but also challenges encountered in this unprecedented crisis.
The roundtable confirmed that working together and learning from each other is critical and following this first step, the members of Aqua Publica Europea will continue sharing on the measures adopted and facing the emergency with unity and solidarity.
Prior to the meeting, the Management Board and members of Aqua Publica Europea adopted a joint statement committing to the continuity of service, thanks to the extraordinary dedication of the women and men working on-the-ground.
