Aqua Publica Europea's position paper on the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD)
Following the European Commission’s recent proposal to revise the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD), Aqua Publica Europea outlines key recommendations to ensure the framework delivers on its objectives while remaining feasible for public water operators.
On 26 February 2025, the European Commission proposed changes to the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) that will directly affect public water utilities falling within its scope.
Aqua Publica Europea fully supports the core objectives of the CSRD, which aims to improve both the availability and the comparability of sustainability information. We stand ready to engage with policymakers to ensure that the CSRD delivers on its ambition while remaining grounded in operational reality.
In this context, in our new position paper, we call on EU decision-makers to maintain the high level of ambition of the Directive while implementing the following recommendations to ensure it is both effective and easy to implement on the ground:
- Reward sustainability efforts
- Clarify the Double Materiality Analysis
- Reduce the number of data points
- Preserve sector-specific standards
- Support proportionality for smaller companies
