The European Parliament’s draft report on the European Water Resilience Strategy calls for bold measures to ensure access to affordable and good quality water services for all

On 29 January 2025, the European Parliament’s Committee on the Environment, Climate and Food Safety (ENVI) published a draft Report on the European Water Resilience Strategy, setting the stage for a stronger, more sustainable approach to water management in the EU.
Led by Rapporteur Thomas Bajada MEP (S&D, Malta), the report stresses the urgent need for actions in six key areas: water efficiency, water pollution, climate adaptation, funding and pricing, digitalisation and innovation, and cross-border cooperation.
At Aqua Publica Europea, we welcome this initiative and strongly support the report’s main recommendations that are key to strengthening Europe’s water resilience. We particularly support the integration of water resilience across all EU policies, the need to speed up the implementation of the EU water policy framework, the urgency to address emerging pollutants, the importance to transit to a more sustainable farming model as well the call for dedicated funding for water resilience in the next Multiannual Financial Framework (MFF).
Our members are already working hard on the ground to strengthen our collective water resilience. The draft report’s proposed recommendations would accelerate the shift towards sustainable water resource management and would further facilitate their work. That is why we stand ready to work with the European Parliament throughout this policy process. The vote in the ENVI Committee is tentatively scheduled in early April.
