INTERVIEW | Prof Pedro Arrojo-Agudo, UN Special Rapporteur
Prof Pedro Arrojo-Agudo was appointed as the new UN Special Rapporteur on Human Rights on the human rights to safe drinking water and sanitation in November 2020. Aqua Publica had the opportunity to interview him about his mandate priorities and so how public water operators can contribute. The interview is presented in a format of five episodes.
Prof Pedro Arrojo-Agudo was appointed as the new UN Special Rapporteur on human rights on the human rights to safe drinking water and sanitation in November 2020 and he replaces Mr Leo Heller. Mr Arrojo was a professor in âFundamentals of Economic Analysis at the University of Zaragoza from 1989 to 2011 and he focused his work on economics and water management publishing over 70 books. He was a member of the Spanish Parliament.

UN Special Rapporteur on human rights on the human rights to safe drinking water and sanitation
Since the adoption of the resolution on the right to water and sanitation in 2010, the UN Human Rights Council appoints a âSpecial Rapporteurâ with the following mandate: âcarrying out thematic research, undertaking country missions, collecting good practices, and working with development practitioners on the implementation of the rights to water and sanitationâ. The Rapporteur is selected following an international call for applications and the mandate is for 6 years.
