OECD initiative on investments in the water sector
On the 12-13 April, Aqua Publica Europea attended the Inaugural Meeting of the Roundtable on Financing Water organised by the OECD in Paris.
The aim of the new OECD initiative is to create a multi-stakeholder platform to discuss barriers and opportunities in securing funding for water infrastructure investments.
APE was represented by the Secretariat and by the Director General of Eau de Paris, Benjamin Gestin. Mr Gestin presented the approach implemented by Eau de Paris to protect the catchment areas so as to reduce treatment costs through voluntary cooperation schemes with farmers. Mr Gestin thus aimed at showing that investments are only a partial solution, which needs to be balanced against the possibility of reducing investment needs through long-term policies and good governance.
