APE president welcomes Jessika Roswall's appointment as European Commissioner and puts forward 3 key proposals to strengthen water resilience
"Congratulations to Jessika Roswall on her appointment as European Commissioner-designate for Environment, Water Resilience and a Competitive Circular Economy.
We are very pleased to see that water resilience is explicitly included in her portfolio description, marking an important political acknowledgment of the need to intensify efforts toward effective water resource management in the EU. This is essential for ensuring both our collective well-being and the competitiveness of our continent.
To strengthen our water resilience, we put forward three concrete proposals for the 2024-2029 mandate:
- An EU Water Cohesion Fund must be established to address infrastructure investment needs through both green and grey solutions. This will help reduce the risk of water conflicts between EU regions and ensure balanced development across the Union.
- A water sustainability check must be carried out for all new proposed industrial policies to facilitate informed decision-making and ensure long-term planning.
- A stable market for water-derived resources must be created to stimulate investments in water circularity and improve Europe’s strategic autonomy and competitiveness."
